Stolen Car From Maplewood Recovered In Hoboken

NORTH JERSEY — The Hoboken police had to arrest a man twice starting on Tuesday after they say he was caught driving a car stolen from Maplewood, charged, released — then caught driving a different stolen car about 45 minutes after his release.

Police say that David Theodore, 29, from Newark, was arrested in a white Infiniti car at 50 Harrison St. in Hoboken, near the Jersey City border, at 10:48 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police Officers Nicholas Protopapadakis and Harry Montalvo conducted a motor vehicle stop and found that Theodore was driving with a suspended license. The car turned out to be stolen from Maplewood, police said.

Theodore was charged with receiving stolen property and received a summons for driving with a suspended license.

He was released around 1:30 a.m. with a date to appear in Superior Court on March 8, police said.

But then, around 2 a.m., a woman waved down Sgt. Donald Rosso near First Street and Willow Avenue. She said her Zipcar rental car had just been stolen. She pointed the car out as it traveled west.

Ross stopped the car at 101 Clinton St. (about eight blocks from where Theodore had been stopped last time).

Theodore was charged with burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He was also issued another summons for driving with a suspended license.

This time, he was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
