The Psychic Masseuse

One of the first things I learned when I moved to Maplewood four and a half years ago was about a “psychic masseuse,” Diane Rose of Natural Balance. A group of moms on my block gathered in front of my house and the topic turned to her.

One mom told me when she walked into Rose’s office, Rose predicted she would get pregnant soon and have a girl. It came true. Another woman shared how Diane connected her with her deceased grandmother. Diane knew details about the grandmother that no one else would know.

Weird but very cool, I thought.

Over the years, I have seen Rose a couple of times. Some times she is able to read my energy but other times, all I have gotten is a massage. A great, relaxing massage, but, alas, just a massage. When I have asked her why that is the case.

“I don’t pull these things out of the sky. It comes through me. And sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t," Rose said

I recently called her to make an appointment. While we were trying to figure out a date that would work, she read my energy right away.

“This is going to be a year of change for you,” she said. “You’ve been feeling stuck.”

The moment I walked into her Maplewood’s office (between Leo’s Nails and St. James Gate at 169 Maplewood Avenue), I knew it was going to be an interesting experience. Once again, she said I was in for some big changes. When I laid face down on the mat for a shiatsu massage, she began asking questions about a woman. It was clear to me that she was talking about my Mom who had passed away over eight years ago. Yes, I know some people will read this and think I am crazy (my husband included) but I really do feel that she somehow connected with my Mom.  As the massage continued, Diane provided details that led me to believe she connected with both of my deceased grandmothers as well.

After the massage, I asked Rose if she had a few minutes so I could ask her questions. Thankfully, she did have time to spare, which was very unusual. Usually her days are booked solid. In fact, she is currently booking appointments for May. I had always wanted to learn more about her but felt a bit shy about asking. Now, as a writer for patch.com, I had the perfect excuse. She also agreed to pose for a few photos but admitted she felt a bit shy doing so.

She lives in South Orange and has two sons. She practiced in South Orange for two years before moving to Maplewood, where she has been for the past seven years. She offers reflexology, shiatsu, deep tissue massage, cranial sacral massage and, of course, energy work. She said she has been empathic her entire life.

“As a small child, I remember sitting down next to a boy in the classroom. Every time he sat near me, I would flinch. I later learned he had been abused,” she said. She also shared how she had a premonition about her brother’s death a few days before it happened.

She sees clients in Maplewood most days except for Tuesday, when she works in her Upper West Side office.

“I even have clients who fly to see me from all over the world, including Italy, Switzerland and even Israel” said Rose. She has many new adventures in the works, including being featured on a television program and writing a book. “I have also been approached by people who want to partner with me and have me leave the area, but I would never leave here. This is my home.”

She enjoys her work, but being a psychic has occasional occupational hazards.

“I love what I do but not what I sometimes see,” she said. “I sometimes see not too nice things.

If a client does come in and she sees visions of illness or even death, she will not go as far as to tell them that message.

“However, I will say, if you remain on this path, it could be over eating or drinking, you will not get good results,” she said.

Yes, she does see people’s energy when she walks down the street or standing behind someone on line. “I don’t generally say anything to them unless we are in dialogue.” Oddly enough, she can also read people’s energy that are not in the room and who are still alive. For example, she read my immediate families energy (my husband and two daughters) and also talked about my older brother.

Once a session is over, Diane forgets everything she just discovered about the person. “I don’t hold onto it at all. Sometimes my client will say, don’t you remember, you predicted x, y and z and they all came true. But I don’t remember.”

Diane sees all sorts of clients in her office, everyone from a 93-year-old client to one that was quite a bit younger.

“I recently had a pregnant woman come in because her baby was breech,” she said. “I was able to help the baby turn.” She even sees children as clients and has toys in her office for them to play with during the session.

“I love connecting with my clients. I feel incredibly lucky,” she said as she gave me a hug good bye.
