MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood police warned residents on Monday about the latest in a trend of people swiping keys from inside a home, then stealing the car — only in this case, two cars were stolen.

Police said that early Monday morning, someone entered a Fairview Terrace home through an unlocked window in back.

They took keys from the kitchen and used them to steal two BMW's parked there. They didn't encounter the homeowner, police said.

"As a reminder please ensure that all residence and vehicles are locked and secured," police said.
