Maplewood to Restructure Departments

The town has made changes to two departments in hopes of increasing efficiency.

The Township of Maplewood announced on June 19 that it will restructure the Parks and Public Works departments.

First, Parks will be moved back under the Public Works umbrella. Then Public Works will be “streamlined” from eight departments to just four.

According to Committeeman Gerard Ryan, no one was laid off in the change and the department is essentially reverting back to its form of a few years ago. Parks will no longer be under the supervision of the Recreation Director. “The administrator and the director felt that fewer divisions would be easier to manage,” Ryan said.

“It’s really for management efficiency. [I’m] not sure that it will result in any changes from the standpoint of the rank and file workers, or the services that they provide,” Ryan continued. “It will perhaps provide some ability to cross-train folks.”
