Three people were found dead in a New Jersey apartment on Sunday, and authorities say they are investigating the matter as a triple homicide.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office told nj.com that the cause of death for the three victims was still under investigation and would be determined by autopsies.
Fennelly told nj.com that his office was investigating "an incident" at the location, a garden apartment on Van Ness Court, a cul-de-sac on Maplewood's south side.

Essex County and Maplewood authorities also issued a joint statement:
"Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which three people were found dead in a Maplewood apartment earlier today," the Sunday evening announcement stated.

At 11:45 a.m, the Maplewood Fire Department responded to an apartment on Van Ness Court to check on the well-being of a resident, authorities said. Firefighters then discovered three unresponsive adults, two males and a female. The individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
