U13 Boys Soccer Team Wins Fall Tournament
MSO Cougar Soccer Players Set Bar High For Fall Season With Tournament Win

The Maplewood-South Orange Cougar soccer U13 boys team kicked their way into the record books by winning the Essex Fall Tune-Up Tournament last month. The players were the best of five local teams in the annual tournament, played on several fields in West Orange.
The boys finished with three wins and a loss, and had to muster up extra energy to play three games on the last day of the tournament due to previous rainouts. The coaches were pleasantly surprised by the wins since the team has several new players and had not played a game as a team before the tournament.
They had an exciting finish to the last game, which was determined by penalty kicks at the end, with a final score of 2-1.

The games had special meaning for the boys because they dedicated their efforts to Kohl Angelo, their former teammate who died over the summer after his courageous battle with cancer. All U13 Cougar boys wear Kohl’s initials “KA” on the sleeve of their jerseys this year to remember their friend, a great soccer player who loved the game.
