The English football fans had something to cheer about early with England scoring in the first half. In the English corner of the bar, Columbia High girls soccer coach Steve Jones led the boisterous cheering, at one point calling a player a "big, fat stupid wank." Chris Farrow of Highland Place Steak (formerly Cent'Anni) was characteristically much quieter but held his head in his hand after a frustrating play. Farrow is hosting game viewing parties at Highland Place Steak—but in the afternoons.
In the American area, Maplewood Township Committeeman Jerry Ryan enjoyed breakfast with his son Mark, home from college in Philadelphia. The room was crowded with young soccer fans who ultimately were rewarded for their loyalty with a rousing win—and a chance to cheer on their team in the next round.
