What To Do When Arrested In Maplewood, South Orange: Police Workshop
Police from Maplewood and South Orange will join community partners to host a "Police Encounter Workshop" on Jan. 14.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police from Maplewood and South Orange will join community partners to host a “Police Encounter Workshop” on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The First Baptist Church of South Orange will host the free, public event from noon to 2 p.m. at 103 Valley Street. Audience participation will be welcomed.

- Your rights and obligations when stopped by the police
- Things you can do to prevent a routine stop from “escalating into an arrest or worse”
- When a police officer can lawfully detain you
- What happens to a complaint made about a police officer
Participants will include moderator Dr. Mamie Bridgeforth, Christina Bennett, criminal defense attorney, representatives from the South Orange and Maplewood Police Departments, and Theresa Andrews, criminal justice professor at St. Peters College.
