UPDATED: Woman, 60, Found Stabbed In Maplewood House Fire
Police say there's no threat to the public after a woman was found with stab wounds in her Maplewood home on Wednesday.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A Maplewood woman was found in her home with four stab wounds on Wednesday morning after authorities responded to a fire at the residence, sources said.
An official source said the wounds appeared to be self-inflicted, and that the woman is in the hospital being treated.

A spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said their detectives are investigating the incident, but declined to comment further.
The Maplewood police issued a statement late on Wednesday.

They said that at around 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, "The South Essex Fire Department (SEFD) was dispatched to a reported house fire at 60 Maplewood Ave. SEFD extinguished the fire and during the preliminary sweep a 60-year-old female was located inside the home. The female was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. This incident is still under investigation by the South Essex Fire Department and the Maplewood Police Department."
They said there is no threat to the public, but would not release further details.
Earlier in the day, the police sent residents an alert about police activity at 60-70 Maplewood Ave. and asked them to avoid the area, as well as Springfield and Vermont avenues.
