Suspect Demands Maplewood Woman's Cell Phone At Gunpoint, Then Demands Passcode
A person pointed a gun at a Maplewood woman on Sunday night and demanded her phone, police said. Then, he demanded her passcode.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A Maplewood woman said that a man pointed a gun at her while she was sitting in her car on Sunday night, then took her cell phone.
Police said that on Sunday at around 9:15 p.m., they responded to the area of 88 Tiffany Place.
Thdewoman, 23, told police she was sitting in her car facing east on Tiffany Place when a dark model SUV approached her from behind.

The vehicle pulled up next to her, she said. Then a rear seat passenger got out, approached her window, and pointed a firearm at her, she said.
The person told her to hand over her valuables or she'd be shot, the woman told police.

The woman said she only had a cell phone and handed it over. The suspect took the phone, "then demanded the victim provide the passcode for the phone or she would be shot," police said.
The woman did so, and the suspect confirmed the code worked.
The suspect re-entered the vehicle, which headed left on Franklin Terrace and out of sight.
The victim told police there were at least three other people in the car.
Maplewood police said that the Irvington police reported an attempted carjacking in their jurisdiction with a vehicle matching a similar description.
Police reached out to T-Mobile to track the phone, but they could not.
