Worldwide Orphans Foundation Announces Artistic Contest
The effort hopes to raise awareness of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

On Wednesday, May 7, Maplewood’s Worldwide Orphans Foundation announced a contest. Young artists across America are invited to submit artwork to the foundation. The contest is an annual event; the work of previous winners can be purchased as greeting and note cards from their Web site (purchases support their efforts).
The grand-prize winner of the contest will have his or her art exhibited at the WWO 2009 Gala in New York City on October 26. The winner will also receive two tickets to the gala. Three runners-up will receive $50 gift certificates from Blick Art Materials, and all winners will have the opportunity to have their art displayed at a NYC gallery and made into WWO greeting cards for the 2009 holiday season. Entry is open to young artists between the ages of 15 and 21 who are US residents. Artists can enter their work through July 15, 2009.
In a press release, WWO described the purpose of the contest as putting the “transformative power of visual arts” to help WWO help “all orphans around the world overcome overwhelming obstacles, and give them back the most precious gift in the world—their childhoods.”
