$5.2M In Infrastructure Improvements Coming To Marlboro Township
The projects include roadway engineering, sidewalk installations, drainage upgrades and park improvements, Mayor Hornik said.

MARLBORO, NJ — A series of major capital improvement projects is coming to Marlboro, including roadway engineering, sidewalk installations, drainage upgrades and park improvements, Mayor Jonathan Hornik announced on Friday.
Contracts for five separate projects totaling $5.2 million were authorized by the Township Council at its meeting on Thursday.
“These projects reflect our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving Marlboro’s infrastructure,” Hornik said.

Offsetting the contract costs is a total of approximately $2.6 million in grant funding secured from Monmouth County, the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“When outside grant opportunities arise, we are ready to apply because we undertake an annual review and prioritization of our capital requirements,” Hornik said. “This level of preparation is critical to capitalizing on what are increasingly limited opportunities to bring in outside dollars. Our approach has paid off once again.”

The contract for road improvements includes the reconstruction of significant sections of School Road East, as well as Beacon Hill Road and surrounding local streets, and drainage improvements at Bauer Lane and Tennent Road.
Using $897,000 of grants received from NJ DOT, under contracts with Anar Construction LLC of South River, NJ and Lancha Construction Corp of Jamesburg, the township will connect sections of sidewalk and install curbing on Topanemus Road and Route 520 and School Road West.
These projects are designed to help make busy locations throughout town more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly.
Under a contract with Rencor Inc. of Somerville, streambank stabilization improvements necessary in order to stabilize the roadway along Nolan Road will be undertaken using a $1.3 million grant received from FEMA.
Additionally, a new public walkway project has been approved for a preserved open space site located on Tennent Road.
The project includes a perimeter walking path, benches, some parking and other site improvements utilizing $387,000 in grant funding received from Monmouth County. Anar Construction LLC of South River will be performing the work.
“Less than one month ago, Marlboro’s Aaa credit was reaffirmed by Moody’s Investors Services, the highest grade available,” Hornik said. “Triple A credit guarantees that taxpayers see these important capital improvements at the lowest rates available in the marketplace.”
“The bottom line is that the rating agencies recognize Marlboro’s good governance and strong balance sheet, and taxpayers pay less as a result,” he continued.
To keep residents informed, the township has launched a new “Township Projects” section on its website, where updates and information on current and upcoming infrastructure initiatives are available.
