5 Questions to Ask Junk Removal Companies - Junk Removal Freehold

De-cluttering your home and yard can bring you peace of mind, especially if you've been living amidst clutter for so long.

De-cluttering your home and yard can bring you peace of mind, especially if you’ve been living amidst clutter for so long. Peace of mind goes a long way so you can start over with a fresh slate. But choosing a junk removal company can be daunting if you don’t know which questions to ask. Not all junk removal companies are the same, so ask these questions when you call around.

  1. What do you charge? Pricing structure will vary by company. On the whole, you want a company that has no hidden fees and that tells you everything upfront. Most companies will offer a few packages for you to select from. Most will provide you with a free estimate, but they should do it in person. Otherwise, they have no way of giving you an accurate price without seeing the junk you have. The quoted price should include everything: labor, tax, transfer station fees and fuel costs.
  2. What kind of stuff do you take? This can also vary by company. Some take everything but hazardous materials such as paint, oil and car batteries, while others only take large, cumbersome items like couches and fridges. Check what the approved items are beforehand to save time.
  3. Do you recycle my old junk? Companies that recycle what they can are good ones to choose. Not all of your junk is destined for the dump. Some can be repurposed and reused, or even donated. In fact, many companies have relationships with local organizations where they can drop off recycled materials and goods.
  4. Do I have to be home when you show up? While not always a requirement, it’s still a good idea to be home to welcome your junk removal company. This is so you can direct to them exactly what to take, as well as pay for the services and look over the invoice. If you absolutely can’t be at home when they come, most companies will call you when they arrive to double check on what to take and process your payment over the phone.
  5. Are you licensed and insured? For everyone’s safety, liability and peace of mind, the company you choose should be licensed and insured for the owners, trucks and employees. In addition, make it a point to ensure the business is registered with the proper permits.

Bottom line is, every junk removal company offers different services, prices and policies, so be sure to do your homework on each one. It’s a good bet to get at least three estimates before settling on a company.
