85-Year-Old Man Rescued After Fall In NJ Creek

MARLBORO, NJ — First responders came to the rescue of an 85-year-old man after he fell while walking along the bottom of a creek on Thursday evening.

At 5 p.m. on Thursday, the Morganville Fire Department was dispatched to assist Marlboro Police after the man fell down an embankment in the creek.

According to Marlboro Police Captain Jonathan Gramcko, the man was walking along the bottom of the creek when he fell about five feet and struck his head.

The creek was about 30 feet deep from street level, Gramcko said.

Once first responders arrived at the scene, firefighters established an extension ladder system and a rope rescue mechanical advantage system to safely get to and remove the man.

From there, crews secured him to a backboard and used the rope to carefully hoist the man up the embankment.

The man was then brought to waiting EMS personnel for further evaluation and treatment. Authorities have not released the victim's identity.

"Great work by our members who utilized their training, equipment, and teamwork to safely complete this technical rescue," the Morganville Fire Department said in an online post.
