While it's good to see businesses coming into Monmouth County, wages still aren't going up, housing is becoming increasingly unaffordable, and the cost of living is comparatively much worse than in any other county in New Jersey, as well as in the United States.
Monmouth County should be the best place to live, work, and raise a family in New Jersey, but under the current fully Republican Controlled government that has been in power for years, it isn't. Here are the facts that the Monmouth County Republican Party won't tell you about. In Monmouth County, the cost of living for a family is 75.0% more expensive than the national average: a total of $113,400 for the year for a family. For a single person, it's a good place to live, as it is 10.5% less expensive than the national average: a total of $51,200 for the year for a single person.
But to live, work, and raise a family in Monmouth County, it is ridiculously unaffordable, as it costs $9,450 a month for a family to live here. Monmouth County is 29.1% more expensive than the U.S average, and 7.8% higher than the New Jersey average. We all know the policies of Trenton don't work, but this is a Republican controlled county, and we're doing significantly worse compared to other counties in New Jersey, so we can't just blame Trenton for that; our leadership here is partly to blame for the cost of living here in Monmouth.
And while we're talking about policy, what policies has the Monmouth County Republican Party and government implemented to help residents here at home? Was it when the Republican controlled county commission here illegally raised their own wages by $3,000, including the wages of party Boss, and Sheriff Shaun Golden by $42,210, over a period of five years? Or was it the time when the Monmouth County Republican government illegally investigated their own county clerk, who's also a Republican and currently the chair of the New Jersey Republican Party? Or are we talking about the time when the Monmouth County Republican Government Wasted nearly a million in our taxpayer money in a failed attempt to privately seize an airport?
So what policies are they exactly implementing to help us in Monmouth? I know it can't be the tax increases that they implemented last year that raised our taxes by 21-23 million, or the disastrous Monmouth County Assessment Demonstration Program that the Monmouth County GOP enthusiastically champions and continues to defend, which causes unexpected tax spikes, high administrative costs for towns, and the loss of appeal protection rules. So please tell us again, what policies is this Republican Government implementing to fuel this "engine" of "progress"?
We're long overdue for a change here in Monmouth County.
