MARLBORO, NJ — Five firefighters were injured after two fire trucks collided while responding to a call on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
At 3:15 p.m. on Friday, authorities responded to Route 79, where two Morganville fire trucks had collided in a rear-end crash.
As a result of the crash, two firemen were briefly entrapped in one of the trucks, though both were successfully removed and brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
Alongside the two entrapped firefighters, three other firemen were also brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Marlboro Police told Patch.
"Thankfully, all five members have since been released from the hospital and are home recovering with their families," the Morganville Fire Department said in an online post.
"We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support and assistance from our neighboring departments and emergency service partners."
Both trucks involved in the crash sustained "significant damage" and will be out of service for an extended period of time, the fire department said.
As a result of the crash, Route 79 was closed between Station Road and Harbor Road until it reopened a few hours later at 6:41 p.m.
Investigation into the crash remains ongoing, police said.
"This incident is a reminder that our firefighters face significant risks every time they answer the call," the Morganville Fire Department said. "We are incredibly thankful that, despite the severity of the accident, all of our members are home tonight."
"From all of us at the Morganville Fire Department, thank you to everyone who stepped up to help us when we needed it most. Your support means more than you know."
