It’s that time of year again, the world is awash in pink and awareness is at its peak!

Throughout their life, any one person will most likely know at least ten women diagnosed with breast cancer.  On average, one in eight women will hear the words “you have breast cancer” in her lifetime.

I’ve heard it twice.

Hearing you have cancer once is devastating...hearing you have it again is nearly incomprehensible. I was first diagnosed with stage 2A breast cancer in 2007 at age 38. I had no family history and tested BRCA negative. I completed fifteen months of treatment which included a lumpectomy, dose dense chemo, radiation and adjuvant treatment.

Six months after I celebrated my five-year cancerversary, I was diagnosed again (this time stage 1) when a suspicious finding on a routine MRI turned out to be a different type of breast cancer in the same breast. Forward and onward - I barreled through a double mastectomy, diep flap reconstruction, more chemo and more adjuvant treatment and here I am, living out loud!  I am twice as fearless. I am twice as tough. I am a two-time survivor.

I believe that one day breast cancer will never steal another year from anyone's life. Making Strides is not only my opportunity to join my community to fight back against breast cancer, but it is also a way to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help those facing the disease. That's why I'm walking.
