Colts Neck Honored For Efforts In Safe Routes To School Program

COLTS NECK, NJ — Colts Neck Township will be honored with a Silver Award at the end of September for its achievements in the New Jersey Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Recognition Program.

Hosted by EZ Ride, their 2026 Annual Recognition Event will take place on Sept. 24 at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth.

The event will bring together transportation, education, government, and community leaders from across New Jersey to celebrate partnerships advancing mobility, safety, and sustainability, officials said.

Featured presentations will include Stefanie Scharf of Uber Health, who will highlight their case study on EZ Ride’s work to expand transportation access; Teaneck Deputy Mayor Denise
Belcher, who will discuss the Township’s Complete Streets and Safe Routes to School initiatives; and Dr. Erick Alfonso, Belleville Superintendent of Schools, who will highlight the district’s leadership in transportation electrification.

The program will recognize achievements in two categories:

• Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Awards: Honoring 220 schools and 75 municipalities for advancing safer, more walkable and
  bikeable communities
• Electric Vehicle Adoption Leadership (EVAL) Awards: Recognizing 11 businesses for leadership in EV adoption

The New Jersey Safe Routes to School Program is part of a nationwide effort to encourage safe walking and biking to school.

At the event, Colts Neck will receive the Silver Award in recognition of its long-standing commitment to creating safer, more accessible routes for students and fostering a community that supports active transportation, officials said.

In addition, Cedar Drive Middle School will be recognized with a Bronze Award for its efforts to improve student safety, encourage healthy lifestyles, and reduce traffic congestion around schools.
