Colts Neck Naval Base Will Allow Civilians To Rent Homes
The cost of renting a home on the base is almost half the price of the average rental in Colts Neck.
COLTS NECK, NJ-- Soon, Colts Neck civilians will be able to live next door to Naval officers-- on base. Despite opposition, Naval Weapons Station Earle is moving forward with plans to begin renting homes to civilians, New 12 NJ reported.
Renters will have to undergo two background checks before being approved, and will not be allowed in certain areas of the base.
Although the plan has the support of the Navy, many local, state and county officials are in opposition. According to the Navy, 3,000 civilians currently live on naval bases nationwide.

Homes would rent for about $2,400 a month. The median rent for a home in Colts Neck is about $4,450.
