Photos Of Deer With Glass Bowl Stuck On Head In Colts Neck

A homeowner in Colts Neck reported the young buck, which had become ostracized from his herd.

COLTS NECK, NJ — A deer has been rescued in New Jersey after its head became stuck in a glass bowl. Some photos were released of the deer (see below).

The deer, reported by a homeowner in Colts Neck, probably got its head trapped while trying to drink water from the bowl, the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said in a Facebook post.

Authorities were alerted on Friday morning that a young buck needed help, the post said. The deer, which was dehydrated and hungry, became "ostracized from his herd" because he looked different with a bowl on his head, the SPCA said. He would only eat once his herd had left the area.

Humane officers and the state Division of Fish and Wildlife waited for the buck to appear and then sedated him. Once it was safe to approach him, the team removed the bowl, which turned out to be a light fixture cover, the SPCA said.

"The buck was dehydrated from 4 days without food and water and had a couple of scrapes probably from the poor visibility but was able to get up and walk away after we cleaned him up and the sedative had worn off," the post said.

The organization tells Patch in an email the deer is now "better than ever." Further details are expected to be released on Monday.
