Dog 'Left To Die' In Monmouth County; Authorities Seek Public's Help
Firefox was left in a crate and unable to walk on the side of the road. Now, the SPCA is seeking the public's help in his recovery journey.
MARLBORO, NJ — Authorities are seeking the public's help after a dog was "left to die" on the side of the road in Marlboro, the Monmouth County SPCA said.
In a statement posted on Thursday night, the SPCA said the dog (named Firefox) was found less than 48 hours ago, abandoned on the side of the road in Marlboro, left in a crate, and unable to walk.
Weighing in at just 3 lbs., Firefox had a Body Condition Score of 1 — the lowest possible rating before death, the SPCA said.

"Firefox was discarded like trash, unable to walk and skeletal from starvation," the SPCA said. "While law enforcement hunts for the person who did this, we are fighting to keep his tiny body strong."
With a body score of 1 and blood sugar levels four times the normal limit from "pure trauma," authorities said Firefox's recovery will be "long and costly."

The SPCA is seeking donations to help with Firefox's recovery journey.
As of Monday morning, $24,775 of the SPCA's $20,000 goal has been raised.
"Firefox has already survived his first critical night in emergency care, and will need round-the-clock monitoring," the SPCA said. "While his medical issues are currently secondary to severe starvation and neglect, his road to recovery is long."
The SPCA is raising funds to help care for Firefox's hospitalization, physical therapy to help him walk again, specialized food for regimented weight gain and ongoing medical care.
Donations to Firefox's recovery journey can be made here.
"Every donation is a small part of his rescue story — we couldn't do this without you," the SPCA said. "He's fought to stay alive — now it's our turn to fight for him."
If you recognize Firefox or know where he may have come from, the SPCA is asking that you reach out to Marlboro PD or email them at info@monmouthcountyspca.org.
