COME JOIN THE FUN! You are invited to participate in sprint and lure coursing training and practice sessions conducted by Paw Pals, LLC at Bucks Mill Recreation Area, Colts Neck, NJ.
It doesn't matter if your dog is a mixed breed or purebred, if he is an experienced racer or never raced at all --- all are encouraged to attend.
Have a day of fun for under $10.00!!
All dogs will be held and released at the start line by hand (no starting gates).
By attending practices like this, your dog will be taught to chase a plastic bag (we don't use bunnies!) and will run alone until his skills are such that he can race against one or two other dogs.
Even though these practices are entry level, for those of you who are experienced with athletic dog competitions, this is a great way to keep your dog fit. It is a proven fact among all athletes that cross training is highly recommended for peak performance. **Water is NOT available at the site, so please bring your own. Sign-up Procedures / Running Order If this is your first time lure coursing in the new 2011 season, you must fill out a release form. Once you have completed the release form and signed up, you will be put on our schedule. Each schedule sheet will include 12 dogs. Those 12 dogs will complete their first run in order, and then they will complete their second run in the same order. After the first group of dogs is finished running, we will move on to the next group of dogs. The reason for doing this is to make our practices more organized and time efficient. We are currently developing an on-line sign up where you will be able to pre-select which hour you would like to run in. For example, if you would like to run between 11am and 12pm, you will sign up online for that time slot (provided openings are still available). Then you will know when you should arrive at practice and can plan the rest of your day ahead of time. We will let you know when that is up and running.
Lure Coursing Guidelines:
1) Please keep your dogs on a short leash and limit their interaction with other dogs. Our sport has grown in leaps and bounds and there are ALOT of dogs at practice. It is best/safer if the dogs do not try to meet or play with other dogs.

2) If your dog is highly stimulated (i.e. barking and lunging) please try to work out of your car or limit the dog’s visibility. Let us know where you are and we will find you for your run. This sport is highly stimulating both visually and audibly (sound of the pulley) to our dogs. Please help them to be successful on "race" day! We want them excited about lure coursing but not out of control......there is a fine line!
3) This is not an environment for training your dog! Please, NO metal choke or any prong/pinch collars on site! We highly recommend a harness and short leash for your dog. Harnesses will be removed for your dog's run. If you prefer not to use a harness, then a flat buckle collar, martingale collar, or slip lead is fine. Keep in mind the AKC does not allow prong/pinch collars at any of their events and ABSOLUTELY does not allow harsh corrections (i.e. popping and jerking of the dog’s collar (any type). Although we are not an AKC event, we choose to follow their guidelines for treatment of dogs at our events.
