1 Dead In Monmouth County Car Crash, Police Say

Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday morning on Route 18. Here's the latest:

MARLBORO, NJ - Authorities are investigating a crash that occurred Friday morning on Route 18 that killed at least one individual.

The state Department of Transportation is on location and is setting up a detour as of 9:20 a.m., Capt. Steve Levy of the Marlboro Police Department told Patch. Route 18 southbound was shut at Route 520/Tennent Road during the initial investigation and reopened around 10 a.m.

“We are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 18 southbound in Marlboro Township this morning,” Levy said on Friday. “Our officers are still on location.”

At around 6:30 a.m., police recieved several 911 calls regarding a crash involving a 2008 grey Honda Accord that struck a large tree. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver was not immediately available pending family notification, police said.

Members of the Marlboro Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police, Quality Medical Transport, Marlboro Fire Department, Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic
Health Paramedics, Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
