Did you get an alert from Jersey Central Power & Light that there would be a planned power outage?

That alert was false, and should not have been sent out, the company told Patch Tuesday.

The false text was sent stating that a planned power outage would occur. The text included your address, a date and time as well as a rain date. This message was sent only to those registered for JCP&L text updates and was sent throughout all of New Jersey.

"There was a technical issue with the alert system," said JCP&L spokesman Ron Morano. "There was no planned outage. We are communicating information about it to the customers who received it."
