Man Dies In Early Morning Route 18 Colts Neck Crash: Prosecutor

Breaking: Mina Salib of East Brunswick died after the car hit a tree; Samy Yanni of East Brunswick was hospitalized, officials said.

COLTS NECK, NJ — An East Brunswick man was killed and a second man injured when a car hit a tree along Route 18 early Saturday morning, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

Mina Salib, 46, of East Brunswick, was pronounced dead at 5:43 a.m. at the scene of the crash, which happened in the area of the Normandy Road Bridge, Gramiccioni said.

Salib was a passenger in a 2006 BMW X5 driven by Samy Yanni, 46, also of East Brunswick, that veered off the road about 4:50 a.m. and hit a tree on the passenger side of the car, where the car came to rest, he said.

Yanni was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, the prosecutor said in a news release.

The crash resulted in Route 18 being shut down from about 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., he said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Colts Neck Police Department.
