Modell's On Rt. 9 In Marlboro To Close
Modell's Sporting Goods announced this week that it will close all of its stores after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Wednesday.

MARLBORO, NJ — Modell's Sporting Goods announced this week that it will close all of its stores after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Wednesday.
The news means that Modell's will close all of its 25 locations in New Jersey, including the Morganville/Marlboro location on Rt. 9 north in Marlboro Plaza.
As of Friday, a store employee at the Marlboro location said there was no set closing date.

The chain was expected to start hosting liquidation sales both in the store and online, as of Friday.
"Over the past year, we evaluated several options to restructure our business to allow us to maintain our current operations," said Modell's Chief Executive Officer, Mitchell Modell, in Business Wire. "While we achieved some success, in partnership with our landlords and vendors, it was not enough to avoid a bankruptcy filing amid an extremely challenging environment for retailers."
