Montrose Schoolhouse To Be Part Of ‘A Weekend In Old Monmouth’

COLTS NECK, NJ — Montrose Schoolhouse will be open for “A Weekend In Old Monmouth” this spring.
On Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, the historic schoolhouse will open for the weekend event, where residents can visit over 50 historic sites and museums for free throughout Monmouth County.
The Montrose Schoolhouse, circa 1812, is the last of Colts Neck Township’s six one-room schoolhouses.

Situated on the corner of Cedar Drive and Montrose Road, it is the only one that retains its original architectural profile with original pumpkin pine floors, a potbelly wood-burning stove and a collection of period school desks.
During “A Weekend In Old Monmouth,” the schoolhouse hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.

This is compared to full tour hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
A printed tour booklet will be available at any participating site during “A Weekend In Old Monmouth.”
