Old Brick Reformed Church To Be Part Of ‘A Weekend In Old Monmouth’

MARLBORO, NJ — The Old Brick Reformed Church is set to be open for “A Weekend In Old Monmouth” this spring.

On Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, the historic church will open for the weekend event, where residents can visit over 50 historic sites and museums for free throughout Monmouth County.

During the event, the Marlboro Historic Commission will be on-site at the Church for tours and will also be hosting a Scavenger Hunt, where participants can win prizes.

The Old Brick Reformed Church, organized in 1699, is the longest continuously operating church in Monmouth County.

Located on Route 520 (Robertsville Rd), the current building was erected in 1826, and has stained glass windows alongside many original architectural features, including a large pipe organ that is still in use today.

The Old Brick Church Cemetery contains over 1,300 burials, some dating back to the early 1700s.

There are five burials of Revolutionary War Patriots, including Reverend Benjamin Dubois, who was the minister of the Church during the Revolutionary War, and the first minister to preach in the English language – previously services were performed in Dutch.

During “A Weekend In Old Monmouth,” the Church hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.

A printed tour booklet will be available at any participating site during “A Weekend In Old Monmouth.”

Visitors to the Church can also receive printed materials and watch a slideshow to learn about the other 18 historic landmarks throughout Marlboro and Morganville.
