Person Killed In Rt. 18 Crash In Marlboro Monday Night

Breaking: At 8:30 last night, a black Nissan Xterra hit trees and overturned on Rt. 18 south just north of the Rt. 79 overpass.

MARLBORO, NJ — A person was killed in a motor vehicle crash Monday night on Rt. 18 south in Marlboro Township, police announced. It was a single car accident and the identity of the person killed has not yet been released by police.

At approximately 8:32 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2 the Marlboro Township Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Rt. 18 southbound just north of the Rt. 79 overpass. Upon arrival, officers located a black Nissan Xterra that had left the roadway, hit trees and overturned. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Marlboro Township Police Department Traffic and Safety Bureau. Rt. 18 southbound was closed for several hours last night, from Rt. 9 in Old Bridge to Rt. 79 in Marlboro.

The Marlboro Township Fire Department, Robertsville Fire Department, Marlboro First-Aid Squad, Morganville First-Aid Squad, paramedics from MONOC and the State Department of Transportation all responded to the crash.

Cpl. Brandon Stacy of the Marlboro Township Police Department Traffic and Safety Bureau is investigating the accident. At this time the Marlboro Township Police Department is not releasing the name of the driver of the vehicle pending notification of the next of kin.
