According to the American Diabetes Association, over 29 million Americans have diabetes while another 86 million have a condition known as pre-diabetes. Diabetes is a serious disease. At its worst, diabetes can result in heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, nerve damage, blindness or amputation. This facility could offer a wide range of Diabetes Services to help people take control of their disease by obtaining accurate, up-to-date information regarding diabetes management. Through a outreach program, Health Promoters could go into the community and provide glucose/diabetes screenings to local clubs, communities and schools. They also could teach community members how to live a healthy lifestyle with diabetes and offer information about local low-cost clinics and physician offices for those who may be uninsured."
