Route 18 Crash Kills North Jersey Man: Police

Robert Jeans, 42, of Scotch Plains, died Friday night in the crash in Colts Neck, police said.

COLTS NECK, NJ — A North Jersey resident was killed Friday night when his ccar hit a guard rail on Route 18 in Colts Neck, police said Saturday.

Robert Jeans, 42, of Scotch Plains, was pronounced dead at the scene, Colts Neck Police Chief Kevin Sauter said.

His car was headed from southbound Route 34 to southbound Route 18 when it left the road and the median guard rail neary exit 19A, Sauter said.

Three passengers in the car were treated for minor injuries and taken to local hospitals, he said.

The southbound lanes of Route 18 were closed for several hours as a result of the crash, police said. The investigation is continuing and is being conducted by the Colts Neck Police Traffic and Detective Bureaus.
