Tractor Hit In Marlboro While Mowing Grass On Highway: Cops

Two individuals were injured after a vehicle struck a DOT tractor in the median of Route 18 North, police said.

MARLBORO, NJ - A Monday afternoon collision on State Highway 18 North in Marlboro involving a Department of Transportation vehicle left two injured, according to authorities.

At approximately 2:12pm on Sept. 21, the Marlboro Township Police Department responded to several 9-1-1 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 18 North. An investigation revealed that a Chevy Trailblazer (Eric Hopkins, 28, of Newark) struck a Department of Transportation tractor that was cutting grass in the median of Route 18 North just north of Wyncrest Road. The tractor was being operated by Robert Taylor, 58, of South Amboy.

Taylor received “minor” injuries and Mr. Hopkins suffered from a broken leg and head injuries, according to police. Both individuals were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital via ambulance.

One lane of Route 18 Northbound was closed for several hours while police conducted a crash investigation. The cause of the accident is still unknown, although police indicate that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors.

The Marlboro Township Police Department, Marlboro First Aid Squad, Marlboro Fire Department, Robertsville Fire Department, NJ State Police, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Department of Transportation all responded to the scene.
