2 Liberal Democrats Challenge Congressman Frank Pallone In June 2 Primary: A Voter Guide

NEW JERSEY — June 2 is primary election day in New Jersey.

In New Jersey's Sixth Congress district, two liberal, progressive Democrats challenge longtime Congressman Frank Pallone. They are:

• John Hsu (D) Healthcare, Not Bombs And ICE. He was one of the top organizers in New Jersey for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign. He protests often against Israel's military actions in Gaza. He is running on a platform of abolishing ICE, universal healthcare and universal childcare.
• Katie Bansil (D) Fighting For NJ, Not The Oligarchs. She's from Woodbridge. Like Hsu, she calls for universal healthcare, universal childcare and abolishing ICE. Bansil also fights for immigrant, labor and women's rights.
• Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D) Official candidate of the Monmouth County Democratic Organization. Pallone has been the Sixth District's Congressman for the past 38 years, since Pallone was first elected to Congress in 1988.

Registered Democrats will be asked to choose one of those three.

Pallone is one of Congress' most outspoken critics of President Trump.

Whoever the Democratic nominee winner is next Tuesday, that person will go against Hillary Herzig, the Republican running for the Sixth District Congress seat in November. She describes herself as a "Jersey First Republican."

According to its Wikipedia page, New Jersey's Sixth Congress district represents the towns of Carteret, Woodbridge, Edison, Highland Park, Metuchen, New Brunswick, part of Old Bridge, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Sayreville, South Amboy, South Plainfield, Matawan, Aberdeen, Asbury Park, Atlantic Highlands, Bradley Beach, Deal, Fair Haven, Hazlet, Highlands and Atlantic Highlands, Keansburg, Keyport, Little Silver, Long Branch and West Long Branch, the northern part of Middletown (south Middletown is NJ 4/Rep. Chris Smith), Monmouth Beach, Neptune City and Neptune Township, Oceanport, Red Bank, Rumson, Sea Bright and Union Beach.
