Aberdeen Christmas Tree, Hanukkah Menorah Lighting This Week

Come for carols by the Matawan Regional High School Choir, Clydesdale horse wagon rides, ice sculptures and more. Tuesday and Wednesday.

ABERDEEN, NJ — Aberdeen Township invites all to participate in its annual menorah and Christmas tree lighting ceremonies Tuesday and Wednesday of this week to celebrate the start of the holiday season.

The menorah lighting will be on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m., and the Recreation Department’s annual Christmas tree lighting will be the following night, Wednesday, Dec. 1, also at 6 p.m.

Both ceremonies will take place at Aberdeen Town Hall, One Aberdeen Square, located on Church Street, near South Atlantic Avenue.

The Hanukkah celebration will include festive activities such as music, dancing and dreidel games. All family-friendly activities will take place inside the lobby of Town Hall after the lighting ceremony.

The Christmas tree lighting runs until 8 p.m. and will feature hot chocolate, candy cane-shaped pretzels, carols by the Matawan Regional High School Choir, Clydesdale horse wagon rides, ice sculpture carving, a bounce house and an opportunity to decorate an ornament.

Santa will be arriving at 7 p.m. to light the tree, escorted by the Cliffwood Volunteer Fire Company and Aberdeen Township Hose and Chemical Co. #1. Families will then have a chance to grab a photo with Mr. Claus.

“After having virtual ceremonies last year, we are very pleased that the Menorah and Christmas Tree Lightings will be back and better than ever,” said Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini. “With the holidays approaching, it will be a night filled with festive fun for the whole family.”

Residents should be aware that Church Street, from Bailey Road to South Atlantic Avenue, will be closed from 6– 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to park at Matawan United Methodist Church, 478 South Atlantic Avenue. Police officers will be on site to assist with traffic and crossing.
