Aberdeen Homeowners: Register Security Cameras With Police

This week, Aberdeen announced they are starting a voluntary program for residents and businesses to register their security cameras.

ABERDEEN, NJ — This week, Aberdeen Twp. announced they are starting a voluntary program for residents and businesses to register their home surveillance cameras.

Under the program, in the event of a nearby crime, police may contact the system owner to see if their exterior camera(s) possibly recorded an event related to the investigation.

“This registry is designed to not only deter crime, but also to give our officers the ability to resolve crimes or other emergency incidents throughout Aberdeen faster and more effectively,” said Aberdeen Police Chief Rick Derechailo.

The registry does not provide anyone, including the Aberdeen police department, ongoing access to registered cameras or their feed.

“Access is only granted on an as-needed basis in the course of an investigation," Derechailo explained.
