Aberdeen-Matawan 2021 Elections: Who's Running, How To Vote

Vote early by machine from Oct. 23 - Oct. 31 OR drop your mail-in ballot at these drop box locations OR vote in person on Nov. 2:

ABERDEEN, NJ — There are elections for school board, town council and the Statehouse this fall in Aberdeen/Matawan.

Unlike last year, where New Jersey voters were forced to vote only by mail, voters have many more ways to vote this year: Machine vote early from Oct. 23 - 31, vote on Nov. 2 Election Day or vote by mail.

1. In Aberdeen:

Longtime Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini, a Democrat, will be challenged by Republican William Sullivan, a corrections officer. On the Council, Tagliarini-backed Democrats Margaret Montone and Joseph Martucci will be challenged by Republicans Michael Vail and Michael MacDermott.

2. In Matawan:

There are two Council seats up for election: Republicans Charles Ross and Melanie Wang seek to unseat Democrats Nicolas Reeve and John Lazar, who both currently sit on the Council.

3. Statehouse race:

Aberdeen is part of Legislative District 13 and voters will be asked to either re-elect the current Republicans that represent this area in Trenton or vote in new Democrats. Read that story: Battle For NJ 13 Statehouse Seats

Election Day is Nov. 2, but under a new New Jersey voting law, voters have the option to machine vote early from Oct. 23 - Oct. 31 here: (There are no early voting places in Aberdeen, but here are the three closest:)

  • Hazlet Township – James J. Cullen Center, 1776 Union Avenue
  • Manalapan Township – Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive
  • Middletown Township – Croydon Hall, 900 Leonardville Road, Leonardo

Hours for all are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

If you'd prefer to vote by mail, these are all the secure ballot drop box locations in Matawan-Aberdeen:

Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked or placed in drop boxes on or before 8 p.m. on Nov. 2, Election Day.
