Aberdeen & Matawan Sign Shared Services Agreement for EMS Service

The Aberdeen Township Council and the Borough of Matawan Council have entered into an agreement authorizing the two municipalities to share services and reduce costs by working together to provide primary daytime emergency medical service basic life support (ambulance) coverage through Hackensack Meridian Health Alert Ambulance.

The resolution, which was passed by the Matawan Council on December 19, 2017 and the Aberdeen Township Council on January 6, will run until December 31, 2018, with 40% of the cost of the services assumed by Matawan and 60% by Aberdeen. The ratios are based on population of the two municipalities.

Nighttime emergency medical service will continue to be handled by Bayshore EMS. Residents of both towns should continue to call 9-1-1 to request ambulance service.

“This is the first of what we hope will be a series of new shared services agreements between our two towns,” said Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini, who noted that Aberdeen and Matawan have successfully shared both a school system and library for many years. “We look forward to working with Matawan and other Bayshore towns on additional shared initiatives that can save our taxpayers money.”
