Aberdeen Police Blotter

Cases of criminal mischief and complaints of harassment were among those investigated recently by Aberdeen police.

Aberdeen police investigated a carjacking, harassment complaints, and cases of criminal mischief, authorities said.

Officers handled 315 calls for service between June 24 and June 30, including eleven suspicious persons/vehicles, 16 alarms, 16 first aid calls, twelve motor vehicle crashes, eight disorderly persons, two domestic violence incidents, two thefts, three noise complaints, one fraud, two welfare checks, two criminal mischief incidents, and 131 motor vehicle stops. Officers issued 105 motor vehicle summonses.

June 24

Officer Christopher DeSarno responded to a report of harassment on Sue Anne Court.

Officer John Zeller took a report of a suspicious blue and white van occupied by a male on Chilton Lane.


June 25

A Church Street resident reported receiving a phone call from someone purporting to be from the Federal Trade Commission informing her she had won a cash prize and telling her to send a check to cover processing fees. Officer Roger Peter responded.

 June 26

A West Prospect Avenue resident reported receiving suspicious text messages. Officer Michael Plant took the report.


Officer Mary Johnston responded to a report of a stolen bicycle at the train station on Atlantic Avenue.


The manager of Bowtie Cinema, Route 34, reported graffiti on the rear of the building. Officer Bart Szulczynski responded.

June 27

Officer John Young arrested a 42-year-old township man on a contempt warrant out of Aberdeen municipal court.

Kelly A. Leslie, 33, of Aberdeen, was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving, and several other motor vehicle offenses after she struck a parked car in the A&P parking lot, Route 35, at approximately 7:50 p.m. Officers found that she had her seven-year-old child in the vehicle at the time. Leslie was additionally charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Officer Raymond Campbell was the arresting officer. He was assisted by Officer Matthew McDow.


 June 28

Officer John Young arrested a 23-year-old township man on a contempt warrant out of Woodbridge municipal court following an incident on Cliffwood Avenue.


June 29

A 36-year-old township man was arrested for criminal mischief related to an incident on June 26 on Center Street. Detective Louis Nanna was the arresting officer and Officer Matthew McDow took the initial report.


Donell Freeman, 39, of Nathan Court, Aberdeen, was charged with robbery, carjacking, driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, and other motor vehicle offenses following an incident at the A&P store on Route 35. Police Officers Matthew McDow, Raymond Campbell, and Bart Szulczynski, and Sgt. Darrell Oliver were the responding officers.

Officer Edgar Serrano responded to a reported assault on Beaver Place.


A Fordham Drive resident reported someone threw eggs at her house and damaged her lawn. Officer Michael Plant took the report.


June 30

Charles Camp, 18, Brookside Avenue, Aberdeen, and two township juveniles were charged with arson after a fire was set on a township footbridge that runs between Deerfield Lane and Matawan Regional High School on Atlantic Avenue. At approximately 5:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of a fire at the rear of the high school. Upon arrival a school maintenance worker told Officer Charles Trucillo that he had seen three youths running from the scene. Officer Martin Walsh located the suspects walking on Atlantic Avenue and took them into custody. Aberdeen Township Hose and Chemical Company No. 1 responded and extinguished the fire.
