“The first time I knew I had a passion for civic engagement was when I attended my first protest in seventh grade, following the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Being in a space where so many people came together to work towards a common goal fueled my passion for protecting our democracy. Having the ability to spread my passion to my peers with the help of the League of Women Voters was an incredible opportunity.”

"Avery’s work reflects the very best of the League’s mission and the mission of Energizing Young Voters," said Patricia Supplee, Director of EYV. "By bringing this voting simulation to life, she gave her peers a hands-on experience that answers their questions and generates excitement about becoming lifelong voters. This scholarship model doesn’t just reward leadership — it grows it."
