Bogus Handymen Steal Money From Aberdeen Woman, Police Say

The woman was at her Lloyd Rd. home, near Jankisz Lane, Monday when a beige Ford Explorer pulled into her driveway. Four men got out.

ABERDEEN, NJ — An Aberdeen woman said she was robbed of $500 Monday by some men posing as home improvement contractors.

The woman told police she was at her home on Lloyd Road near Jankisz Lane Monday afternoon, April 23, when a beige Ford Explorer pulled into her driveway. It was about 4 p.m. Four men were inside.

Two of the men approached the house and told her they were in the area looking for work; they asked if she had any work to be done. One of the men, described as white, short with a stocky build, mustache and in his mid-40s, seemed to know some personal information about the victim and family members, she said. The second man was described as also white, approximately 5’9” with a thin mustache.

She showed them some repairs that needed to be done and they said they could do the work for $500. The woman gave them the cash and they left to purchase supplies, but did not return.

Officer Frank Maisano and Det. Sgt. Michael O’Dwyer with Aberdeen police are investigating. Residents are warned to be wary of unsolicited offers to do home repairs and to immediately report suspicious activity to police. Anyone with information should contact the detective bureau at 732-566-2054.
