Aberdeen Woman Run Over By Own Car, Police Say

The woman, 80, was run over by her own car when she forgot to put the car in park while chasing her two dogs, which had gotten out.

ABERDEEN, NJ — An Aberdeen woman, 80, was run over by her own car Monday morning when she forgot to put the car in park and it accidentally ran her over, said police.

She is expected to survive the incident, but was taken to the hospital at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, said Acting Aberdeen Police Chief Matthew Lloyd.

The incident happened at 11:45 a.m. Monday on Overlea Lane in Aberdeen, said the police chief:

The woman, an 80-year-old Aberdeen resident, was chasing her two dogs, which had gotten out. She got in her car and was following the dogs to a gated area on Overlea Lane, and the dogs got under the gate.

The woman stopped her car and went to try and open the gate, however she failed to put the car in park and it ran into her, running over both her legs, he said.

He said the woman was embarrassed, but that she did require medical attention and also that "she did sustain some type of leg injury."
