Aberdeen/Matawan Police Step Up Drunk Driving Patrols for Super Bowl

So are the local police.

The Bayshore Task Force, comprised of police departments in Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Hazlet, Holmdel, Highlands, Keyport, Keansburg, Matawan, Middletown, and Union Beach, will be deploying extra officers as part of a massive DWI Saturation Patrol on Super Bowl Sunday night.

Nine of the departments were awarded grants from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety of $10,000 each to pay officers for the extra patrols.

The remaining departments will use their Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds, police in those towns said.

“Drunk driving is completely preventable,” said Aberdeen Chief of Police John Powers, president of the Bayshore Task Force. “All it takes is a little planning. We want fans to remember that it’s a choice. Drink or drive—but never do both.”
