Monmouth County Boy On Bicycle Hit By Truck Tuesday

MATAWAN, NJ — A boy riding a BMX-style bicycle was hit by a moving truck Tuesday afternoon in Matawan borough, police in that town said.

The boy's age was not immediately given by police.

He was hit by the truck at 4:35 p.m. at the intersection of Broad Street and Rt. 34. Police say a 2019 Hino moving truck was headed east on Broad Street through the Rt. 34 intersection when the truck collided with a juvenile boy on a BMX-style bicycle.

The juvenile cyclist was rushed to a local hospital where, as of Wednesday afternoon, he is listed in critical but stable condition, according to Matawan Police Captain Sean McCabe.

The driver of the moving truck remained at the scene. No charges or summonses have been issued as a result of this incident.

This is the incident that shut down Broad Street at Rt. 34 for several hours Tuesday evening in Matawan.

An investigation involving members of the Matawan Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), remains active and ongoing.
