ABERDEEN, NJ — A man carrying his son while walking across Rt. 35 was hit by a car Saturday night and killed, said the Monmouth County Prosecutor.
The child, age 4, remains in stable condition in a local hospital with injuries the prosecutor described as minor and non-life-threatening.
A 2015 Nissan Frontier struck the man at 9:16 p.m. at the intersection of Rt. 35 and Cliffwood Avenue. The driver of the Nissan told police he was headed south in the left lane of Rt. 35 when he struck two pedestrians.
It was a father, 38, carrying his 4-year-old son on his shoulders, reports the Asbury Park Press.
The father and son were in the crosswalk and were attempting to cross from a west-to-east direction when they were hit, said the prosecutor.
The impact propelled the adult man into the left-center northbound lanes of Rt. 35, and he was later pronounced dead on scene.
The child was rushed to a hospital.
The driver remained at the scene. At this time, no charges or summonses have been filed. Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor's Detective Aaron Lay at 732-431-7160 ext. 7169 or Aberdeen Township Police Department Officer Jessica Marr at 732-566-2054.
