KEYPORT, NJ — A Keyport man was arrested after police say he punched a woman after she told him to slow down on his e-bike.

Keyport Police say the incident unfolded on American Legion Drive on the Raritan Bay waterfront in Keyport at 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 12, a steamy night in the middle of the heat wave New Jersey just experienced.

Police say a man and a woman were riding e-bikes along the waterfront when a woman in her 60s, strolling on the waterfront with her husband, told them to slow down.

In response, the man stopped, got off his e-bike and punched the woman in the head, say police.

The woman's husband posted on Facebook that many people on the boardwalk that evening immediately rallied to help them. The woman was taken by Keyport EMS to Bayshore Medical Center, where she underwent several tests, including a CT scan, and was diagnosed with concussion, bruises and cuts. Her husband said she's recovering as of Monday.

Keyport Police posted a photo to Facebook of the two e-bike riders riding away. Keyport Police said Sunday thanks to tremendous help from the public, they identified the man and he was criminally charged.

Qadreek Strickland, a Keyport resident, was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Aberdeen Police were also very helpful in identifying him, said Keyport Police.

"The Keyport Police Department would like to thank the public for the valuable information and assistance provided throughout the investigation," Keyport Police said Monday afternoon. "We also would like to recognize the hard work by Sgt. Vito Koempel and Ptl. Zachary Scully in identifying, locating and arresting the person involved."
