Bites Nearby: Bagel Hut in Aberdeen

Well, I wouldn’t really call it a restaurant, but if you are looking for a quick breakfast on-the-go, Bagel Hut in Aberdeen is tops. The major attraction here are bagels of course, but they also make great egg sandwiches and enormous muffins baked on the premises.  I get the oatmeal muffin so I feel like I am being good to myself.

Like its name suggests, Bagel Hut is tiny. Look for it in the corner of a petite strip mall, on Route 34 South, just across from the Wyndham Place Condos. It faces Rt. 34 with just enough parking in front. With its few small tables, this is no the place for the family reunion, but it's just right for a quick coffee and egg sandwich, alone or with a friend. I tend to take my order "to go." 

I usually ask for a half-dozen of their flavorful bagels to bring home to the family ($4.99). They slip in an extra. I must confess I love that free bagel. Even though the owner probably does it for all his patrons, it always makes me feel special. Back in the car, it isn’t long before bagel number seven comes out of the bag. 

Take note, my New York friends who say they can't find a decent bagel out here in the country: These generous rings of dough are cooked to a perfect crisp on the outside and moist and chewy inside.  In my view, this combination of textures makes for a very good bagel.
