"Blue Collar Boys" Wins Best Feature Film at Northern Virginia International Film Festival

Fairfax, Va., (April 19, 2015)—Blue Collar Boys, a compelling dramatic feature film about the fading American dream, has won the award for Best Feature Film at the Northern Virginia International Film Festival. Produced, written, directed and edited by filmmaker Mark Nistico, Blue Collar Boys has captured its third award within the festival circuit. Nistico accepted the coveted award at the first annual NOVA Film Festival Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 18 at the Angelika Film Center, located within the Mosaic District in Fairfax, Va.
Blue Collar Boys received 9 nominations from the Northern Virginia International Film Festival including Best Feature Film, Best Editing, Best Art and Design, and Best Director for Mark Nistico. The actors in the film were up for five nominations including two for Best Actor: Gabe Fazio (The Place Beyond the Pines) and Bruce Kirkpatrick (The Wire); two for Best Supporting Actress: Sonja Stuart (Everybody’s Fine) and Julie Bersani (Lust for Love); and Kevin Interdonato (The Sopranos) for Best Supporting Actor.

Alongside Blue Collar Boys, the category of Best Feature Film at the NOVA Film Festival included Indigo (dir. John Hawthorne Smith), Lost Angels (dir. Stan Harrington), Leaves of the Tree (dir. Ante Novakovic), Lake Los Angeles (dir. Mike Ott), and Backgammon (dir. Danny Thykaer).
In addition to this award, Blue Collar Boys won the Best Micro-budget Feature award at the 2011 Toronto Independent Film Festival and Best Screenplay at the 2012 Hoboken International Film Festival.
Blue Collar Boys was dubbed “the most politically appropriate film in theaters” by LA Weekly during a limited city theatrical release in 2012. The film stars Gabe Fazio (The Place Beyond the Pines) as frustrated construction worker Charles “Red” Redkin whose father, played by Bruce Kirkpatrick (The Wire), is forced into debt by ruthless developers played by Ed Setrakian (Zodiac) and Lev Gorn (The Americans). As the pressure of a foreclosure threatens the Redkin family home, Red and his friends are propelled into a life of crime to get cash fast.
