Boy Scout Troop 66 meets NJ Search and Rescue

Boy Scout Troop 66 is visited by NJ Search and Rescue for a refresher on survival tips.

Boy Scout Troop 66 hosted a visit by Stu and Paula Mavros from New Jersey Search and Rescue on Wednesday December 17, 2014. NJSAR (http://www.njsar.org) is an organization of men and women dedicated to providing emergency services to people who may be lost or injured in remote areas. They are an official resource of the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management and are dispatched by the Bergen County Police Communication Center.

The Mavros’ gave a presentation to the Scouts about how to stay safe and what to do if you are lost. The Scouts viewed a video by the National Park Ranger which followed an example of a lost child case from start to finish. The Mavros’ also discussed survival kits and the basic rules for survival if lost in the woods. The Scouts enjoyed the presentation and refresher on survival basics, but the best part of the evening was meeting Zippy.

Zippy, a 2 year old German Shepherd, is being trained as a Search and Rescue Dog and was very excited to meet the Scouts! Troop 66 had a great presentation and is thankful to NJSAR, the Mavros’ and Zippy for coming down to visit.
