Boy Scout Troop 66 operates big earth moving machines!

Boy Scout Troop 66 visited IUOE Local #825 and learned to operate big earth moving machines on a fun day trip.

Matawan Boy Scout Troop 66 had a unique opportunity to operate big earth-moving machines at a recent visit to the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local #825 Training Center in Dayton, NJ. Local #825 Trainers provided a packed morning experience: a classroom session and actual seat time for each participant individually running excavators, backhoes, and all-terrain Gators. Scouts (and adults!) got a good sense of the coordination and skill the Union Operators demonstrate in their daily jobs.

Scouts Ethan C., Connar D., Jay D., Adam G., Ryan K., Shawn L., Louis L., Andrew M., Aiden M., James O., Simon R., Ryan S., and Alexander T. participated and were accompanied by nine adults. Thanks to Scout Dad and Local #825 member Chris Lalevee for connecting the Troop to the IUOE, and Willie Vaccaro, VP and Training Director for Local #825 for ensuring that Troop 66 had a truly memorable experience.

Troop 66 was founded in 1957 in Matawan, NJ and provides an active year round outdoor program for boys in 5th grade and above. Troop 66 meets weekly on Wednesday evenings during the School year from 7:30-9:00pm at the Matawan United Methodist Church. The Church is located on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Church Street in Aberdeen.
