Caring for your Winter Garments
Easy tips to help increase the life of your valuable winter garments. Valuable advice for cleaning and storing your garments.

Read care labels carefully and follow instructions. This will prevent you from inadvertently shrinking, fading or ruining your favorite sweater or coat.
Wool: As a rule, every garment composed of at least 90% wool should be dry cleaned. This includes Jackets, pants, sweaters and scarves. Wool can swell up when washed in water. This will distort the shape of the garment and results will be permanent.
Cashmere is also extremely delicate and should always be dry cleaned.

What if the care label indicates the wool garment can be washed?
Always hand-wash with mild detergent. Be sure to fully dissolve the detergent before introducing the garment. Rinse with care and make sure all the soap is removed. Lay flat, gently blot excess water, smooth out creases and let the item naturally dry.

Coats and jackets should always be dry cleaned in order to maintain the shape. Never use wire or flimsy plastic hangers. They tend to damage most clothing. Instead, use a thick wooden or plastic hanger and be sure it's centered and not hanging more on one side than the other.
Scarves are probably the least cleaned item. Since they accumulate perspiration, dust and mucus (sorry, but it's true), you should clean them at least once per month during the winter season.
